The Facts About Heat Pumps
Cost Effective
In addition to the £5000 BUS grant available to many customers, according to Ofgem they are cheaper to run than using natural gas.
The Energy Saving Trust state you can save up to £1,410 per year compared to an old gas boiler.

For every 1kW of energy you pay for, you get around 3-4kW of energy back, so they're a cost effective and environmentally friendly way to heat your home.
Efficient Heating
One of the reasons heat pumps are so efficient is that they run continuously and at a lower temperature than gas boilers. In fact, running piping hot radiators for short periods is a very costly way to heat your home, so with renewables your radiators won’t get as hot as they maintain a constant warm temperature.
By the way, as your radiators don’t get as hot you’re better off not drying your washing on them!
Suitable Properties
Heat pumps can be installed in older properties. Like any property, design & insulation should be the first priority before you install any new heating system.
When a qualified engineer fits a new system they will have checked the property’s Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), fuel bills and usage, and carried out a full room-by-room heat loss calculation to determine what changes (if any) are needed to the property to determine if a heat pump is suitable and should be fitted.
Quiet As A Library
Modern heat pumps are quiet and according to guidelines should be no louder than a library (which is around 42dB).
While there are strict requirements for the placement of heat pumps to avoid noise pollution, the reality is newer pumps are very quiet and no matter where they are placed, they are highly unlikely to cause a noise nuisance.
Radiating Heat
While they work brilliantly with underfloor heating heat pumps also work with radiators.

In older properties we may recommend upgrading some of your radiators or pipework
.
We will also survey to ensure your existing pipework is not embedded into concrete or can be pressure tested prior to installation.

Long Life Span
The lifespan of a heat pump is often more than 20 years. They work like a refrigerator in reverse, by extracting heat energy from the air and passing that energy to a hot water circuit.

As it uses the same technology as a refrigerator, how often does a fridge break down? Compare that to a gas boiler burning gas at very high temperatures.

Just like all heating equipment we recommend an annual service to ensure best possible efficiency..
